Thanks to all the nice comments I got last time after posting word of my gallery opening in New York last week - hopefully I'm going to be able to include a photo here but we'll see! It was a wonderful & inxcredible experience - coming from painting on my living room floor to seeing six of my paintings framed and hanging on a wall in an actual gallery was really something. The opening was packed, and I'm especially grateful that Janet Reid, Alan Gordon and Chris Grabenstein and his really nice wife J.J. were able to make it. I also got to visit with my college roommate who lives in Brooklyn.
The gallery owner took my mother, sister & I out after the opening & as we talked it turned out that he is a huge mystery fan, of all things! He likes lots of classic stuff and I was able to send him a few books when I got home that hopefully he hasn't read (Manning Coles, for example - he loves Eric Ambler but had never heard of Coles). The rest of the work in the show was so different from mine that my nerves almost vanished - it was like operating from a different universe.
It's great to be exposed to such a different side of life after 50 years on the planet - seeeing these other artist's work and what they are thinking about really got my own wheels turning and I couldn't wait to get home and paint. Though as it turns out things like Christmas are getting in the way but there's something up on the drawing board, calling for me to get cracking.
