Well, I can now state unequivocally that being on a Broadway stage is a lot of fun.
Last Tuesday, I was the moderator and host for "Talkback Tuesday," a lovely program that's becoming a tradition with the good folks at Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps, now in its second year on the Great Not-Quite-As-White way (most of the lights these days are anything but white). And I've gotta tell ya, it was a blast.
I'll admit to some nervousness ahead of time (not quite in the breakdown category, but edgy, for sure), but once on stage, it was like being at home, assuming a few hundred people had stopped by for a chat. The two actors who agreed to come out and be interviewed by me and the audience, Jill Paice and Sean Mahon, were more than gracious and welcoming, and made this moderator feel quite at ease.
That's me, looking more like Alfred Hitchcock than I'd care to admit. The person who doesn't look a thing like Big Al, but is hidden behind someone's head, is Jill Paice, who plays three women during the show.
There were certified Famous People in the audience for the show (I'm not naming names, but Bill Pullman was there), and not necessarily the talkback. We had a pretty good house, though, and many enthusiastic audience members who wanted to ask questions.
In short, the time went by much faster than it had any right to do. And that after I was concerned I wouldn't have enough to ask. Ha!
The show itself, which I'd seen last year, was a delight the second time around--funny, fast, and terrifically theatrical. Those four actors playing the 19-trillion roles (it seemed) did an amazing job.
The guy who moderated afterwards did okay, but he was probably the happiest to be there.
