I got books for Christmas! Did you? All of them are books I probably wouldn't have bought for myself, and so I'm really excited to have them to read. Here they are:
The Cat or, How I Lost Eternity by Jutta Richter, with illustrations bu Rotraut Susanne Berner
Read Me: A Century of Classic American Book Advertisements by Dwight Garner
(Also, the week before Christmas, I bought myself The City of Ember, by Jeane DuPrau, which completely blew my mind with how awesome it was. Seriously, check it out. The way she creates the enclosed, underground city and describes the people and the shortages and the mounting sense of dread made me SO CLAUSTROPHOBIC while I read, I had to put the book down a couple times to take breaks. I also LOVED that she made her main characters smart and capable and didn't put up the annoying "the grownups don't believe us and that's stopping the action!" obstacles in front of them. I can't wait to read the sequel.)
I'm really happy with this year's literary haul. I love that my family bought me books, and such interesting and perfect-for-me books, at that. Thank you, family!
But what about you? Did you get any good reads this holiday season? Share in the comments!
Also, have a safe and awesome New Year's Eve. It's a Blue Moon New Year's, which may mean that my traditional 10pm New Year's ice cream sundae will include blue moon ice cream. Mmmm, blue moon ice cream ...
