For the past three years, the town where I live has held a scarecrow contest. Local organizations and businesses are invited to design scarecrows which are then either mounted to lamp posts or otherwise displayed in the downtown shopping district. Everyone is encouraged to vote for their favorite scarecrow and prizes are awarded. Although I haven't counted, there must be at least three dozen scarecrows on display within a five block radius of the center of town. The level of inventiveness and whimsy is such that I cannot drive through downtown without smiling. As a Halloween treat, I have decided to share some of my favorites.
Of course, I couldn't resist taking a picture of the bookworm.
Mrs. Earth-Ala is made entirely out of recycled plastics.
Nightmare Before Christmas - another one of my favorite cartoon movies.
Julius Caesar is the creation of the high school's Latin students.
I will let you know if any of my favorites win.
