Top Ten Signs You're Not Using Social Media Effectively
-
You post trivial tidbits like "Happy Tuesday" or "How is eveyrone today?" This won't draw readers in, and gaining readership is the point of social media.
-
You only Re-Tweet or Re-Post. The Huffington Post has news aggregation covered, post original content.
-
You post what you eat for every meal, usually with pictures. Unless you're a chef or food blogger, no one cares what you have for lunch every day.
-
You post "Buy My Book" multiple times each day. It's the equivalent of standing in Times Square, wearing a sandwich board and ringing a bell.
-
You post multiple times in less than 5 minutes. There's nothing more annoying than a stream of a single person's posts.
-
You don't post every day. Out of sight, out of mind.
-
You don't interact with your followers/friends. Twitter and Facebook are not one way conversations.
-
On Twitter, you use multiple hashtags and random @ replies. Too many symbols make your posts look dis-jointed and spammy
-
On Facebook, you post your promotional information on all your friends' walls. Their facebook page is not your avenue of promotion.
-
You spend more than an hour a day on social media sites. If you're an author, your primary job is to write books. Spending too much time on social media sites is just another form of procrastination.
