I'm reading a mystery-not-mystery novel right now, Barbara Gowdy's Helpless. It's the story of the kidnapping of a preternaturally beautiful nine-year-old girl. Gowdy got into the minds of elephants in her novel White Bone and now she's in the mind of a kidnapper, his accessory, the kidnapped girl, and the girl's mother. She is amazing.
Happy Mother's Day to all who are celebrating.
