Seems like it was just Friday a minute ago and here it is again. Busy, busy week. I'm appalled at the very idea that it will be August in another week. It's practically time to start my holiday shopping! I've got one son getting ready to start football, another getting ready to go back to college in pursuit of a law degree and a third headed for Field School in Guatamala for three months.
One daughter is working hard studying for her EA exam so she'll be ready to take over a portion of the business when her boss retires next year. When she's not doing that she still works part time for Starbucks. The other daughter is busy getting ready to give birth to my first grandchild in a few weeks. Lot's of busyness around here!
Oh, did I forget to mention the skunk that's been scoping my back yard? Or the family of 5 kittens that I hope will grow up to be great mousers? And the inside dogs that whimper and whine to get outside whenever they glimpse any of the aforementioned outside? It's a wonder I get any work done.
But work I do, and keeping up with some of my clients is not an easy task. We've got an active list of books that we're working that's exceptional. I haven't counted them lately, but here are the most recent releases and those still to come:
April 2009
May 2009
Embarking on Murder by Sue Owens Wright
The Last Resort By April Star
The Gachi by Susan Salguero
July 2009
No Mercy by John Gilstrap
Mind Scrambler by Chris Grabenstein
See Ya by Cheryl Kerr
Swan for the Money by Donna Andrews
August 2009
Babydoll by Allyson Roy
BLEEDER by John Desjarlais
September 2009
Devil’s Island By Carl Brookins
Makeovers Can Be Murder by Kathryn Lilley
October 2009
Death Will Help You Leave Him by Liz Zelvin
November 2009
Fashion Hound Murders by Elaine Viets
Red Planet Noir by D.B. Grady
December 2009
Dusted to Death by Barbara Colley
Oh yes, in case I failed to mention, we've got another mock crime scene and workshop coming up. We'll hit the ground running after Bouchercon and Criminal Pursuits 2009 will take place in the Dallas suburb of Duncanville November 6 - 7, 2009. The info is up on the site now, but we'll be adding a lot more in coming weeks. Check it out and let us know what you think! Better yet, register and come. There's nothing quite like it.
This year, we're featuring a panel of police officers ready and willing to talk details about their jobs as it relates to your writing. And if that's not enough, Mike has agreed to write an Ask a Cop blog for the site so I really hope you'll utilize his expertise when you have questions about anything law enforcement in your writing.
And while you're busy reading this, and making great comments about whatever comes to mind, I'll probably be hard at work on the phone, convincing journalists to write and broadcasters to interview and booksellers to sell and so on. It's what I love. It's what I do.
So tell me...what are you reading? What are you writing?
Reading: Wallace Stegner's The Spectator Bird as my dose of "literary" between mystery novels.
Writing: Just sent off ms of third in my Inspector Coswell series to publisher (NeWest Press). Whew!
These are Canadian police procedurals (RCMP). Interesting to compare with American law enforcement agencies. Looking forward to your experts' comments.

I'm reading NO MERCY. And it's excellent!

Nothing like a good book, is there?
Roy, I'd be interested in seeing your work! I'll have to look it up.

Just finished TILT A WHIRL by Chris Grabenstein and now reading PILIKIA IS MY BUSINESS by Mark Troy.
Working on the novel as well as a couple of stories and awaiting news of when THE 28 DIMENSION: TALES FROM THE TEXAS ZONE is coming out. I have a story in the book titled "Visions of Reality."
