Students at Tutt Library, Colorado College are (understandably) fond of library shenanigans of various kinds. Normally I'm all for such things, but a recent shenanigan involving hard-boiled eggs is not my favorite.
Circulation staff found a couple of decorated hard-boiled eggs on bookshelves in our stacks this month. They removed the eggs, worrying about potential messes and bad smells, and I did a quick post on the problem at my library shenanigans blog. We don't know if they got the message, but an apple quickly appeared where one of the eggs had been.
An apple is still not an ideal object to leave on library shelves, but it's better than a hard-boiled egg! We're not sure what the purpose of the eggs and apples might be, or how many people are involved, but we'd like to state for the record that we'd prefer this shenanigan involved only non-edible, non-organic objects. Perhaps a plastic dinosaur or rubber ducky or origami crane or Fisher-Price person, or, well, really just anything non-gross.
Thank you. And thanks, Marianne Aldrich, for the photo.
