… summer holiday; no more working for a week or two...
Or maybe the iconic singalong Cliff Richard movie never made it to the States?
Anyway – I am. Going on a summer holiday. In (gasp! shock!) just over three weeks. How did it get so close? How did it even get to the middle of April? So summer may not have arrived by the time we leave; we may have to call it a late spring holiday if it hasn’t.
Whatever the weather, choosing vacation reading matter is becoming a priority. My life is a K*****-free zone and set fair to stay that way, so real books rule. And I can get through a whole one on the plane to Denver, and our planned route doesn’t take in many big cities where supplies can be replenished, so I’m going to need several.
Main requirement is they have to appeal to husband as well; that’s one way of saving suitcase space. There are one or two on my to-read shelf that I’ve been saving for the purpose: the latest P J Tracy comes to mind, and there’s a Val McDermid up there. Maybe even The Cuckoo’s Calling, the one J K Rowling thought no one would find out about...
Or... Any suggestions, Dead Guy followers, while I still have time to get to a bookshop? I’m always open to recommendations. Preferably available in the UK without resorting to A*****.
The flight home is taken care of. A day in Denver before we head for the airport will include a long, leisurely visit to the Tattered Cover Bookstore, which I discovered on our first visit to Mile-High City and can happily lose myself in for hours at a stretch.
If you’re going to be in Colorado/Utah/the Four Corners/northern edge of Arizona the middle two weeks in May, give us a wave and say hi. Better still, let’s have a coffee.
I’m still here for two more Dead Guy posts, then my good friend Chris Nickson will be covering for me.
