I got invited to Steamboat Springs, Colorado this week to give a presentation at the local public library. I was kinda dreading the four-hour drive each way, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. I listened to a new music, looked at the beautiful view, and enjoyed the hell out of the fact that none of the many traffic jams were northbound while I was northbound, nor southbound while I was southbound.
The presentation went well, the weather was perfect, I hiked five miles and saw an excellent waterfall, and then I found out that I'd be reimbursed at the official IRS rate of 56 cents per mile, so it feels like I made money on this deal!
What's the best work trip YOU ever went on?
I went on work trip where I got to meet one of my all-time most serious literary crushes: Nicholson Baker. Not just meet him, but work with him for a couple of days and have dinner at his house with his family. I swooned many times over! He was just as delightful as I'd always imagined.
Nick understood that I eventually had to move on, but he and I will always have Maine.

Never had to travel for work. Got to leave work early one day due to water main break.

Oh, that's another good question, what sorts of "snow days" do we get as adults? I once got sent home from work because of toxic carpet-cleaning. What a great day that was! Even though I loved that job, it was wonderful to get a surprise day off.
