I try not to whine about my job. I mean, it's a pretty awesome gig. But we all have one of those days. Mine has actually been one of those weeks. Because I had a larger than normal season for Winter 2016, now as I am working on Fall 2016, I find myself behind. (The month I pretty much lost because of my surgery didn't really help that much.) I have to fill four slots for Fall 2016 I need to fill and I need to have those books decided on before I leave for Bouchercon next week. But it's not like reading manuscripts is all I am doing. On Monday I created the materials I needed to present five books to acquisitions this week. Five books! Only one was for Fall 2016. The other four were for 2017. They are series continuations and I always have to be looking ahead. Then today I presented those titles. All five were approved, which is great news. After I find the four titles I need for Fall, I will put together the offers to send to the agents and get those five contacted.
After today's meeting, I started reading manuscripts. I think I have found two, maybe three keepers. All three started off great. Now is the race to get them read before Monday so I can create the materials for next week's acquisitions meeting. A job that is never ending it seems.
I can say this - I do still love my job. I love reading. But right now my eyeballs need a break.
Next week I shall report from Bouchercon. Perhaps even posting from the bar, where all the fun and craziness happens. Be well all! And I will see most of you next week. :)
