Yes, sorry to tell you, but it’s Chris Nickson in for Lynne yet again.
For the last couple of weeks I’ve been banging on about the book launch I’d been planning. Well, it happened, in the very best surroundings any writer could imagine – a library that’s more than 200 years old – and about 50 people showed up, in spite of there being another literary event and the switching-on of the Christmas lights. I’ll happily take that.
Was it a success? Yes. People were taken by surprise by the mix of words and music, and by the song at the end (performed by musicians, not me, to everyone’s joy). Eerie. Atmospheric. Good. That was what I wanted.
My bit of it – the words over the music – lasted about 25 minutes, and all the rehearsal paid off. I think. I sold a fair few books, at hardback prices, and that can’t be bad, can it? Give people something to remember. Mach Schau, the audience used to shout at the Beatles during their formative year playing clubs in Hamburg. I habe Schau gemachen.
In fact, you can judge for yourselves. Over the weekend I did a quick recording of the words over the soundtrack. After all that work, I wanted some kid of permanent record. I owed myself that. You can listen here:

And, of course, if you like what you hear, Free From All Danger is now available in the UK, and coming to the US and ebook in February.I’m just saying…
